Villa Madonna Academy Student Technology Acceptable Use Agreement

Villa Madonna Academy students agree to the following rules for using computers and the Internet at school:

·         Use of the school’s computing network is a privilege not a right.  If I abuse that privilege I expect to lose it.

·     I will only use the school’s network for the purpose of education and for researching approved school assignments.

·     I will only use the school’s network if there is a teacher/librarian/administrator present supervising me. I understand that unsupervised use is not permitted at Villa Madonna Academy.

·    I will use the school’s computing equipment with respect for other people and respect for the hardware and software I am using at all times.  I will not purposefully alter, destroy or damage any piece of hardware, software, or networking equipment.

·         I will not give out my full name, home address or telephone number, or my school’s name, address or telephone number to anyone online without my teacher’s permission.

·         I will not hide things that I am doing online from my teacher, school librarians, or an administrator.

·         I will not use the school’s computing equipment to access any Internet Chat Rooms, Social Networking websites, or Instant Messaging websites.

·         I will not participate in the use of blogging websites at school without my teacher’s permission.

·         If I see images on a website that make me feel upset or disturbed in any way, I will report the incident and the website address immediately to my teacher who will then report it to the school’s Technology Director.

·         If I have a technical problem with a computer, I will report it to my teacher and ask for his/her help.

·         I understand I am responsible for my individual network account and will take all reasonable precautions to prevent others from being able to use my account.  Under no conditions will I provide my password to another student.

·         I will immediately notify a teacher or the school’s Technology Director if I have identified a possible security problem with respect to the use of my network account.

·         I will not participate in any unacceptable use of the school’s computing environment.  Unacceptable use of the school’s computing environment means using the school computers or the Internet to:

o    Bully, harass, intimidate, impersonate or stalk others online.

o    Violate copyright laws.

o    Commit electronic crimes.

o    Transmit obscene, hateful or threatening communications, images or videos.

o    Communicate or publish defamatory or racially offensive materials.

o    Invade, alter, copy or delete someone else's network computer files.

o    Engage in gaming or streaming unless authorized by a teacher/librarian/administrator.

o    Download software from to the Internet onto any school computer.

o    Attempt to load software from any CD, DVD, or external data drive onto any school computer.

o    Upload or download any computer virus, spyware, or other malicious software.

o    By-pass any content filtering devices to access Internet resources not deemed appropriate for student use.

o    Engage in commercial activities online such as buying or selling, without permission from a teacher.

o    Attack other people's internet connections, websites or computers, or damage or deface anyone else's website.

Promote or provide information about illegal activities, promote physical harm or injury against any individual or group, or promote any act of cruelty to animals.
