Math and Dean of Students

Welcome to the 2024-2025 school year!!!

Geometry (Periods 5, 7, and 8):  Through class participation, lecture, and meaningful assignments, the Geometry classes engage in learning the idea of the physicality of math which is what geometry represents.  Logical thinking is a main focus, and knowledge of definitions, postulates, and theorems is a must (but memorization is not required in these classes).  Performing proofs and problem solving concerning geometry is important in the class.  Physical constructions are performed later in the school year.

Tests are normally given every two or three weeks (chapter tests). Students are given notice of these dates. Quizzes are given at any time and are not announced.  This requires the students keep up with assignments. Homework assignments are usually required to be turned in on Friday of each week.  Homework assignments can improve a student's quarter grade as much as 10% if all accepted.

Student use of the i-pad  is permitted if the student feels comfortable doing this, however performing geometry using note taking and sketching pictures is likely more conducive to better understanding the topics.

Algebra One (Period 4): This class is composed of 8th grade students and designed to teach the fundamentals of algebra.  The class will process at the pace the students can master the material. The intention is to arrive at advance topics during the fourth quarter.

Tests, quizzes, and homework assignments will be the basis of determining grades.  Although assignments will mostly be given nightly, these will be turned at the conclusion of each week.  Tests will occur about four times per quarter and are given at the conclusion of each chapter.  Quizzes are periodic but are not announced in advance. Students should stay current with assignments to be prepared for quizzes.  Tests are announced in advance.

Use of calculators is permissible. The first quarter will progress through four chapters and involve some extracurricular topics as well.
